WU Season 2, Ep. 1 Environmental Racism Impacts Black Health Outcomes – 2:24:21, 1.15 PM

Our first guest for season two of our podcast is Dr. Cheryl Holder, class of ’80. We talk with Dr. Holder about how environmental racism impacts Black health outcomes. Long term exposure to pollutants and lack of access to medical care leave our communities more likely to contract the coronavirus. Lack of access to health care also creates other risk factors such as diabetes. As a result of these conditions, infections are usually more serious for us.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the inequities in heath care in communities of color. African American, Native American and LatinX deaths are the highest in the general population. Scientists are studying how pollutants in our environment are contributing to these poor results.

This podcast episode is the first part of Dr. Holder’s conversation. Stay tuned for part two.
