Young Black and Entrepreneurial

Young Black and Entreprenurial
Two New Black Owned Businesses
WU Season 3, Ep. 2 – Young, Black & Entrepreneurial – 8-23-21, 1.00 PM

This episode focuses on two young entrepreneurs. Although the COVID-19 pandemic was raging, both still had to make sure their businesses stayed alive. In a previous episode, Linda Chatman (’75) discussed how part of the COVID stimulus bill would help Black businesses. But, regardless of any possible stimulus assistance COVID created challenges for all businesses included Black businesses. Alicia Scott and Nicholas Antoine discuss their experiences of being Young, Black and Entrepreneurial in the time of COVID-19.

Although Nicholas and Alicia are in two dramatically different industries, they find common ground to discuss creating and building a thriving Black business. At the same time, they provide an interesting contrast between a business that starts off with connections and one that does not. Nicholas has a finance background and had experience in the industry before striking out on his own. Alicia, on the other hand, started with Google as her main asset. The path each took to secure their business footing was very different from the other. Yet, bot managed to create a business that is growing and thriving now. It is important to listen to the voices of young people today and support them when we can. Sit back and enjoy: Young, Black and Entrepreneurial.
