Professor Kenneth Nunn discussed the real definition of Critical Race Theory or CRT, a subject taught in some law schools in our last episode. Conservatives falsely claim that CRT is being taught in the K-12 curriculum. In this episode our guests, Janella Hinds and David Adams talk about what is really happening in K-12 in New York and Connecticut. Their challenge is bringing equity & Inclusion to K-12.
Janella T. Hinds is the Vice President for Academic High School at the United Federation of Teachers. In addition, she is the secretary-treasurer of the NYC Central Labor Council. Nonetheless, Janella still manages to get in the classroom and teach global history and geography. She is a ’93 graduate of Princeton. David Adams, is a ’78 Princeton graduate. He is currently the Executive Director of the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund. He and his team of staff and trustees work to address the persistent structural barriers of racism and poverty in education.
The role of racism in public education is an important issue. Many teachers throughout the country are struggling to address the problem. Janella and David offer their thoughts at the end about addressing these complex problems. Enjoy part 1 of our discussion on Bringing Equity & Inclusion to K-12.
