In this episode of our coronavirus series, we examine how COVID-19 runs amok in Black Communities. Dr. Janice Herbert-Carter shares her experiences at Morehouse College of Medicine. She identifies issues that make it hard for doctors and patients to talk to each other.* First, doctors must have sensitivity for the patients. Secondly, patients must trust their doctors, but these factors are often missing in the doctor-patient relationship.
After discussing doctor-patient relationships, Dr. Herbert-Carter to explains why COVID-19 is devastating Black communities. As a result of chronic health conditions that are common in our communities, they are more susceptible to the coronavirus.
If you missed the two previous issues we hope you will go back and take a listen. You can find Dr. Beverly Sheppard’s discussion on Black children and COVID-19 here. And don’t miss out on Dr. Katrina Peter’s discussion about testing and hospital readiness here.
