WU Season 3, Ep. 6 – Black Vets & Military Culture, Pt. 2 – 12-9-21, 8.20 PM

Welcome back to part 2 of our episode on Black vets entitled Conclusion: Black Vets & Military Culture. We started a conversation with Colonel Dr. Alicia Christy and Cmdr (CDR) David Steigman in our last episode. This episode is the last part of the conversation with them. They discuss whether race impacts officer selection and training within the services. We also get a chance to talk about the Jan. 6th insurrection. Active and retired armed services personnel featured heavily in the insurrection. We asked our guests what they thought about the involvement of armed personnel in that event. We also asked for their thoughts on what the services could do to reduce extremism within the branches of the service.

The world is a different place now then it was when our guests joined the services. CMDR Steigman wraps Conclusion: Black Vets & Military Culture by suggesting the military still offers good opportunities for Black people and encourages young people to consider joining.
